For people who are struggling with drug addiction, recovery seems like an impossible task.  The drugs have taken hold of their lives in ways that they never thought was possible.  They can’t imagine their lives without drugs.  But recovery from drug addiction, although very difficult, IS possible with some work and effort.

The first step toward recovery from your drug addiction is admitting that a problem exists.  This is often the hardest part.  Take a good look at your life and your drug use.  See how it has affected various part of your life. 

A good way to start doing this is by writing things down.  Make categories such as “family”, “money”, “job”, “school”, etc.  Once you have categories, start making lists as to how your drug use has affected each one.  It’s essential that you are brutally honest with yourself as you begin to go through the parts of your life and how your drug use has had implications on the various aspects of it.

Once you realize you have a problem with drugs, recovery from that drug addiction can truly start.  You need to tell your family and ask for their support.  Be heartfelt and honest about your own realizations and ask them to share their own feelings about your drug use.  When you have the support of your family, your recovery will go much easier.

You will need to decide whether you are going to attempt your recovery on your own or with the help of a rehab clinic.  If you decide to go it alone, it’s essential that you find a qualified medical professional to help you with withdrawal symptoms as well as a therapist or counselor to help you with the emotions you are going to be feeling.

Drugs are a huge part of your life if your use has progressed to addiction, and recovery from taking that out of your life is very emotional.  It’s like taking away your best friend, which isn’t easy at all.  When you have someone you can talk to about it and help you understand why you are feeling the way you are, it’s an easier recovery.

You may want to also find some type of 12 step program like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous.  Here you will find others who are going through the same emotions and feelings that you are.  Most people who are in 12 step programs report success during their recovery from addiction mainly because of the support they find from others.

Recovery from drug addiction isn’t an easy process.  It’s hard work and can be frustrating and lonely at times.  But when you are committed to your recovery, you can successfully beat your drug addiction and really start living life again – but this time, you’ll be living healthy and drug free!

Drug Addiction


There is a reason people become addicted to drugs.  The psychiatric aspect of addiction to drugs can be very powerful.  Our minds are very complex and the thoughts we have can become rulers in our lives.


Because we are these complex beings with the capabilities of thinking and reasoning, we often discount the mind as just a small part of who we are.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  The psychiatric implications of drug use are ever prevalent and can wreak havoc in the lives of someone with an addiction to drugs.


What exactly are we talking about?  The psychiatric aspects of the mind and how our mind can control our lives is something mental professionals have known about for awhile now.  It’s time you learned yourself.


For example, if you are the child of an addict – whether it be a pot-head parent or an alcoholic parent, your mind begins to justify your own marijuana use or alcohol use as being alright.  After all, if your parents are doing it, it can’t be all bad for you – right?  Well, that’s what your mindset becomes.


Drugs also have an effect on the brain.  It’s a proven, scientific fact that addiction is a brain problem and the American Psychiatric Association has proven this.  When you start using drugs, your brain gets used to having that drug around.  When it’s not present, your mind starts “talking” to you and you believe what it says – that you must have that drug to function.


What can you do to try and beat the psychiatric implications of drug addiction?  The best answer to that question is to get some help.  That means talking to a counselor or health professional about your addiction and asking ways that you can overcome your addiction.


There are many programs available to people who are dealing with drug addiction.  They treat both the mind and the body, because you will be going through some withdrawal symptoms when you decide to stop doing drugs.  With professional help, you will be able to successfully conquer the hold that drug addiction has on you, your life, and your mind.


You don’t necessarily have to enter a rehab facility, but when you contact a psychiatrist or psychologist seeking help for your addictions, you will find that beating that demon will become much, much easier.  Rehab facilities can be expensive and so can psychiatrists, but once you realize that you will need outside help to beat your addiction, you will be better able to get on your way to a drug-free life.

Treating Vulvodynia and Vulvar Vestibulitis with Dilators and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation.

Vulvodynia is a painful syndrome effecting women of all ages. It is diagnosed as pain in the vulvar vestibule area, which could also be described as the entrance to the vagina.

Sufferers of Vulvodynia and Vulvar Vestibulitis find it extremely painful to attempt sexual intercourse, wear tampons, and in severe cases they cannot wear tight clothing without several discomfort.

Whilst there is no know cause of vulvodynia there are a number of treatment options available.

One of the most common and successful methods of treating Vulvodynia and Vulvar Vestibulitis is through physiotherapy specializing in pelvic floor rehabilitation. Pelvic floor exercises coupled with the use of a dilator will decrease the pain experienced as a result of vulvodynia, and in many cases this pain becomes completely manageable and the sufferer can enjoy a normal, healthy sex life.

To start with, you need to practice pelvic floor exercises, the dilator will be introduced once these are mastered.

Step 1: Lying down with your knees slightly bent, draw your pelvic floor muscles upwards towards your pubic bone. You will experience a feeling of tightness inside your vagina. Be sure to take deep breaths and relax all muscles in your legs and stomach.

Step 2. Hold this ‘tightened’ upwards state for 5 seconds.

Step 4: Release your muscles. Imagine you are going from being ‘upwards’ to letting go and dropping back down to the ground floor. Rest for 10 seconds.

Step 5. Repeat 10 times.

It can be quite difficult to master this so be sure to practice. If you have difficulty visualising the ‘upwards’ and ‘resting’ states, it helps to practice on the toilet. When you begin urinating try and stop the flow of urine midflow then release. This is the same as what you want to be doing during your exercises.

Once you have mastered your pelvic floor exercise of tightening and releasing, then it is time to introduce a dilator. A dilator is essential a small tube,, it comes in various sizes. The greater your pain, the smaller the size of the dilator you should begin with. If you do not have a dilator you can use a clean finger.

Step 1: Apply a small amount of lubricant to the tip of your dilator.

Step 2. Following the same steps as above, lie down on your back with your knees bent. Relax your pelvic floor muscles and insert the dilator as deep as is comfortable.

Step 3. Tighten your pelvic floor muscles around the dilator. Remember to stay relaxed and take deep breathes.

Step 4. Rotate the dilator. Imagine a clock face, hold the dilator in the directions of 3 O’clock, 6 O’clock, 9 O’clock and 12 O’clock.

Step 4. Hold each for 5 seconds then release and rest for 10 seconds.

Step 5. Repeat 10 times.

When first starting it can help to use your finger instead of the dilator. This way you can actually feel your pelvic muscles tightening around your finger then releasing, so you know that you are doing the exercise correctly.

As your pain decreases, go up a size until you are ready to introduce your partner into the exercises and resume sexual contact.

Daily sessions of 10 to 15 minutes are long enough to make a significant difference to your life, the added benefit of regular practice being that you will educate yourself to be always more mindful of your breath, or at least to know how to stand down and recover quickly from stress and emotional upsets.

Here’s a quick guide to deep diaphragmatic breathing…

Stage 1: Inhalation Inhale through your nose. Relax your diaphragm as you breath in and let it draw the air down deep into your abdominal cavity (i.e. Stomach area). Allow your ribcage to relax and expand as you breath in so that your lungs can get “topped up” right up to your collarbone area.

Then press the air down into your diaphragm so that your stomach wall is pushed out.

Stage 2: Retention Hold that breath! Consciously hold the breath for about 5 seconds then relax and let it out.

Stage 3: Exhalation Pull your stomach in and up and let the breath out in a slow steady stream through your mouth. Be sure to fully empty your lungs.

Stage 4: Empty Retention Pause for a few seconds with your lungs empty before starting again with the next complete and deep inhalation.

In pranayama, Yoga’s ancient system of breathing for health and longevity, it is this held empty state that is considered the most beneficial to the body and the mind.

Alcoholics Anonymous was started in June of 1935 when stockbroker Bill
Wilson met Dr. Bob Smith while on a business trip to Akron, Ohio. Bill had
gone into a hotel lobby at six months sober, and chose to call a local
hospital to ask to work with another alcoholic instead of wandering into the
hotel's bar.

The book entitled ¡°Alcoholics Anonymous¡± was published in 1939. The
Alcoholics Anonymous book outlines each of the twelve steps to recovery
and is the foundation on which the organization was built. The Alcoholics
Anonymous (AA) program has helped millions of people get and stay sober.

Drinking is seen as a social activity and seldom do people realize that social drinking can escalate and become a case for alcoholism. Alcoholism Requires Recognition And Treatment

He was only about fifty-eight years old when he died. My former
boss was an alcoholic. In fact, I doubt he could function
without a drink. He was in the restaurant business and he could
be seen mixing it up with patrons always obviously drunk. Yet,
he was a highly 'functional' alcoholic. He made a flaming
dessert drink for the customers.

Alcoholism hurts people, it damages lives and the addiction is a
leech that controls and dominates the person it is attached to.
Alcohol treatment can help, but it can only help if the person
wants to change.

My former boss was a really nice guy. He had a really nice
family, lived in a nice place and was successful in his field. I
liked him, I liked his family. Maybe one of the lessons he
taught me was to never take up his bad habit.

Not too long ago, I ran into a young woman. She was very
beautiful. When I saw her 6 months later her face had been
scarred by an automobile accident. Her boyfriend was driving
drunk. He felt so guilty about it that he agreed to go to a
rehab center to get his drug and alcohol problem under control.
Unfortunately, this kind of tragedy had to happen for them to
wake up to the reality of their problem.

I knew another guy when I served in the Navy, he was one of the
funniest people I'd ever met. But he had to have a drink all of
the time. To me, one of the worst things in the world is to be
so dependent on a substance that you can't function without it.
He was young then. Many years have passed and I wonder what kind
of shape he is in today.

A former high school classmate was the president of S.A.D.D.
(Students Against Drunk Driving). Just two months or so before
graduation she was struck and killed by a drunk driver. She
didn't get to see her own graduation except maybe from above.

The list goes on and on. I'm sure you have your own list of
alcohol related situations and problems to draw from. Everyone
does, because the problem of alcohol abuse and addiction is wide

Is it possible to break an addiction to alcohol? The answer is
yes, but the addicted person needs to be willing to do so. If he
or she is not willing, not much can be done. Unfortunately,
before a person can be willing to do so, he needs to admit to
himself and others that he actually has a problem.

Our society and culture make it far too easy to explain away an
alcohol problem or to hide the fact from others or worse, from
one's self. The critical factor to getting help and removing the
addiction or at least controlling it is the person himself. The
willingness to change has to be there coupled with recognition
that the problem exists.

Growing up in an environment littered with alcoholics makes it
even more difficult to recognize alcoholism as a problem. This
person may have grown up thinking that excessive alcohol use is

The health of the physical body can be seriously damaged. The
liver is very important to a person's survival and alcohol abuse
can damage that vital organ.

Teens Drugs Rehab Programs

Drug abuse by teenagers is very common problem of Today that can lead to terrible consequences in the future. A large percentage of deaths in public between 15 and 25 are apparently associated in some way or the other to drug or alcohol abuse. A teen's drug abuse can ravage parents and other family members, and spoil family life. According to a Survey on Substance Abuse teens and their parents view drugs as their biggest concern.

The effects of different types of drugs on teens include tetchiness, insomnia, seizures, anxiety, paranoia, antagonism, memory loss, learning problems, increased heart rate, lethargy, panic attacks, symptoms of continual bronchitis, daily coughs and phlegm, more common chest colds, muscle tension, teeth clenching, dehydration, hypothermia, brain damage, and death.

Stroke Rehab

In the U.S. around 70,000 people suffer a Stroke each year. Rehab is crucial to help the victims of Strokes cope with the effects of a Stroke and recover to a normal and healthy life.

How well a patient recovers from a Stroke depends on many factors. Minimizing brain damage during the Stroke will make Rehab faster and more effective. Rehab cannot cure the Stroke but can help in long-term recovery of the aftereffects of brain damage.

The first step would be to diagnose a Stroke. A number of tests may be done on the patient to diagnose the type of Stroke so that the professionals can determine a treatment and Rehab plan. This includes blood pressure, blood sampling, X-ray, E.C.G., Echocardiogram, brain scans such as MRI and CT scans, and Carotid Ultrasound scanning.

After the diagnosis the medical treatment begins. During a Stroke brain tissue is damaged by blood clots (ischemic Stroke) and /or internal bleeding (hemorrhagic Stroke). Various drug treatments must be started immediately to treat this condition. If used soon enough, they can help prevent damage to the brain.

These include-Anti-platelet drugs, such as aspirin, to prevent clotting, anti-coagulant drugs, cholesterol lowering drugs, and antihypertensive drugs. Some patients may go in for surgical procedures like stenting to clear the clogs and reduce the intensity of the Stroke.

Rehabilitation therapy begins in the emergency care hospital within 24-48 hours after the Stroke, once the patient has stabilized. Rehabilitation of Stroke victims is a difficult and time-consuming task. It helps the Stroke survivors to relearn skills that are lost by brain damage during the Stroke.

It also teaches new skills to make up for any disabilities and to practice and relearn communication, memory, and vocational and physical skills. Commonly people have a surge of recovery in the weeks following the Stroke, followed by a slower recovery in the next year or so.

Stroke can cause five types of disabilities: Paralysis, problems controlling movement, sensory disturbances including pain, problems using or understanding language, and emotional disturbances.

Paralysis is the most common result of Stroke. It causes problems of movement, posture and swallowing. Left-brain damage causes right-limb paralysis. Stroke victims may also experience sensory problems like pain, numbness and loss of feeling. Some may have aphasia, problems using or understanding language. People with Global aphasia may lose all their linguistic abilities.

Stroke can also cause damage to the parts of the brain related to memory, learning and awareness. Some also experience severe emotional trauma involving fear, anxiety, frustration and suicidal thoughts.

During the Rehabilitation process, physicians are responsible for the long-term care of the Stroke survivors, including neurologists who look after acute care and physiatrists who look after the Rehab program. Physical therapists help patients with mobility issues like walking, climbing stairs and maintaining balance. Occupational therapists teach them daily living activities like feeding, grooming and using the toilet. Speech therapists help with language skills and swallowing problems. Rehab nurses care for the patient and educate the family concerning how to care for them. Social workers help Stroke survivors and their families with counseling and community resources.

Stroke is a serious disease, rendering the survivor in a weak and delicate position. The need for aftercare and Rehab is high, as the aftereffects of a Stroke are numerous and interfere with normal life function in an unmanageable way. It is only with the help of this team of doctors, nurses and therapists that the patient can be Rehabilitated.
